Den sjunde dagen av ”Final March for Reform” satsar Demokraterna ytterligare på att mobilisera människor att utöva påtryckningar på ”sina” politiker för att de ska rösta ja till förslaget till ny sjukvårdsreform. Skillnaden den här dagen är att precisionen i påtryckningarna är högre än tidigare dagar. Nu handlar det om att mobilisera människor för att trycka på särskilt sårbara politiker i olika ”swing districts”, det vill säga valdistrikt där valutgången var mycket jämn vid förra valet.

De som bor i Gainesville, Florida, uppmanas därför att fokusera ansträngningarna på att påverka en kongressledamot i Louisiana, Republikanen Joseph Cao. Av mailet nedan framgår mer exakt vad Demokraternas anhängare uppmanas göra. Återigen är det ett intressant exempel på hur man lägger upp kampanjerna, bland annat på användandet av sociala medier, hur fokuserade kommunikationsinsatserna är, hur man försöker underlätta för människor att engagera sig, och hur man försöker skrämma individuella politiker att rösta på ett visst sätt om de vill bli återvalda vid nästa val. Det är också ett intressant exempel på hur påtryckningarna riktas mot enskilda politiker snarare än partierna.

In 2008, voters in Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district voted to send President Obama to Washington to fight for change — including for desperately needed health insurance reform. They expected Republican Representative Joseph Cao to reach across the aisle to be a partner for change.

Unfortunately, after supporting reform last fall, Rep. Cao is reportedly now planning to vote to let insurance companies continue jacking up premiums and denying care to sick people. But it’s not too late for him to put average Americans and the middle class ahead of corporate and special interests.

The next make-or-break vote on reform is just a few days away, it’s expected to be extremely close, and Rep. Cao could be critical. So for Day 7 of the Final March for Reform, our plan is to reach out to voters in his district and ask them to call their representative to speak out for reform.
